China News Radio--Xu, Rongxiang: Announce the results on organ cloning and tumor cell transformation

China News Radio reported on Aug. 16, 2007 (Reporter Jiao Xu) On Aug. 16, Dr Rongxiang Xu, in his office of Beijing Headquarter of MEBO, presented ‘A Report to Honor a Commitment Announced 5 Years Ago On Cloning Organ and The Tumor Cell Line Controlling and Transformation’ to the public. The 70-page report contains 6 parts: explanation on the concepts of scientific research announced 5 years ago; approach of the research on tissue organ cloning; the results of organ cloning in situ in clinical practice; the experimental results of tissue organ cloning in situ; the experimental results of study on tumor cell line controlling and transformation.


The summary of the report described that 1) Tissue organ cloning. More than 206 tissues organs cloning in situ in clinical practice have been completed in accordance with definition of contradistinguish histology as well as tissue organ so that human defected organ resulted from injury recovered by means of tissue/organ cloning has been realized in clinical practice successfully; 2) Tumor cell line controlling and transformation. The study on tumor cell line controlling and transformation has been done. In the tumor induction experiments, in the test group when regenerative substances were involved, the results showed that no positive result was observed while cultured in the same condition of stem cell culture; tumor cells stopped proliferation and died, while on the other hand, normal cells continued proliferation and lived well in case of both tumor and normal cell cultured in the same media contained regenerative substances; 3) Confirmation and protection of the technique. Seven of patent right in U.S.A and 2 in Europe and Japan respectively have been granted to the techniques related to tissue organ cloning. The applications of the patents in China were filed and are under reviewing now. As for other patents related to scientific platform of organ cloning applied in 2001, have been reviewing now in U.S.A. as well. It is expected more patents to be granted in the near future.

The report presented further research plan. It ambitiously claimed that: 1) By means of the matured techniques of tissue organ cloning in situ and the invented regenerative substances; excelsior therapy to burns, surface ulcers, defect of surface soft tissues, absent extremities and alimentary tract ulcers of mucosa and tissues will be further developed and applied so as to realize in situ organ recover in defected organs. To reach this goal, a number of hospitals, centering in Beijing, faced to whole world will be established in whole China so as to engage in situ tissue organ cloning in clinical practice and to let more patients recovered, relieve the pain or to free the patient from the suffering of the diseases; 2)To establish a healthcare system based on regenerative recovery theory and technique, a serial of food combination will be developed following the scientific formula of the nutrition obtained from testing results of cell culture with media contained regenerative substances to prevent human suffering from the diseases and aging. 3) Making every effort to conduct further research on the technique of defected inner organ regenerative recovered with the technique of tissue organ cloning in situ and regenerative substances so that a number of therapeutically protocols and techniques for clinical practice will be established. As a result, more and more doctors will provide better service to their patients with regenerative medicine and therapy. 4) It is expected to conduct further research on synthesis of various regenerative substances so as to develop more and more food combination of full-scale nutrition with regenerative nutrition, which are more convenient and cost effectively. In this way, it is expected to realize the dream presented 5 years ago on maintaining a living human body supplied with full-scale nutrition only without conventional food. That will save at least 50% of resource of nutrition material needed for the human live worldwide so that the living quality of the human in the world will be improved greatly.

After the report presented, Rongxiang Xu was interviewed by the reporters.

Reporter: Why were you able to present a commitment concretely 5 years ago? Is it nothing but only for the attracting effect of the news while you had already obtained the expected results of the research at that time?

Rongxiang Xu: In fact, the systemic research has been done for 23 years. In 2002, it is nothing but to present the existing results of research on tissue organ cloning obtained at that time. But some of the reports misunderstood and misevaluated my presentation in 2002 based on their knowledge and understanding. Of course, the achievements obtained and presented 5 years ago is quite successful in the view of scientific research. The announcement was on the basis of the successful results; and I believe I can honor the commitment 5 years later, otherwise the announcement was a kind of suicide for my scientific live! It is as what Academician Zuze Wu said in the hearing of this achievement that none of scientist had the courage to make such an commitment. However, during of the period of the hearing on my presentation held in 2002, most of the scientists attended the meeting had understood our approach to conduct the research and the fact of tissue organ cloning. What they concerned at that time was the period of 5 years might be too short to honor such commitment and they were wondering if our enterprise was strong enough to do so alone. Therefore the period of 5 years I announced was the time we needed only to conduct more studies to confirm the results obtained, especially the study of organ self-renewing of albino rat took the time because the average life time of albino rat is 480 days generally, but some may have life time of more than 2 years so that the period of the study should be designed more than 3 years. Only in this way it can demonstrate if albino rat had self-renewed cell and tissue organ in situ with its own cells before the tissue organ of albino rat was aged. This was why we designed the period of study was 5 years. As for the commitment of the study on tumor cell line controlling and transformation, it was our purpose to have all who had interest in cancer research attention to the direction of the cancer research so as to avoid a crooked road of the study.  Since we had obtained the basic results of the study and each experiment of tumor cell line controlling and transformation only taken about 1 month, the period of 5 years was long enough to conduct such experiments repeatedly to confirm the results of the study we obtained earlier. From this it may be easy to understand what we announced 5 years ago was true and successful.  However any person who knows little about the background may doubt if it’s possible to honor the commitment since it’s too difficult to be completed.

Reporter: What is the difference between tissue organ cloning in situ and organ cloning with the hot-reporting stem cells?

Rongxiang Xu: The tissue organ cloning means that the organ is self-renewed via potential regenerative cells existing in the tissue of the organ to proliferate and differentiate into new tissue organ in case of organ aged or defected due to diseases. The renewed organ is kept in normal function with the same structure so as to confluence it into the original living part of the organ. As for the method to culture an organ in vitro with embryonic stem cell, then to transplant it into the human body for replacing the defected organ, it may be a wonderful dream. But there is still some questions for it, even mono cell culture has not been fully successful. All dealt with this is a thought rather than a way to practice. The falsification event of embryonic stem cell by scientist in Korea may demonstrate the reality mentioned above from other side. I have no idea if the people misunderstand above scientific dream or some scientist has not clarified that the method is only a dream rather than a practicable way. I have no experience to create an organ in vitro so that I can not evaluate the technique to culture an organ in vitro.

Reporter: What is the difference between Regenerative Medicine with tissue organ cloning and conventional medicine?

Rongxiang Xu: Both of Regenerative Medicine and conventional medicine service the same goal--human health. However the principle is different. The conventional medicine focuses on treating deceases, in other words, treating the disease of cell or organ with antagonizing agents that cause disease. While, Regenerative Medicine only focuses on healthy cell and organ rather than cell and organ with disease. What the regenerative medicine does is to keep the healthy cell and organ in its optimal status and to renew cell by means of regeneration of new cell via potential regenerative cell to replace the cell with disease so as to get rid of the disease and to keep organ in healthy status. The materials serviced for conventional medicine are drugs of antagonizing the agents of the disease; while the materials fed to the cell for cell grow is a serial foods containing regenerative nutrition. Therefore Regenerative Medicine is a different medical field from the conventional medicine and they can not replace each other. 

Reporter: Generally the masses know little about cancer research due to the limitation of professional knowledge, could you tell them in general that the difference between conventional way and your way in cancer research?

Rongxiang Xu: Cancer is in the first place of mortality now in the world. As a doctor and a medical researcher, I have an obligation to develop medical technique or therapy to find an approach of saving cancer patient with my own knowledge and intellectual properties. Although we are not specialists in cancer treatment, we note that tumor cell is a kind of cell with capacity of proliferation that is similar with potential regenerative cells (PRCs). Now that we can control the PRCs, why don't we try to control tumor cells by the same technique? Following the thought, we attempt to see if tumor cells follow the same law of proliferation or need the same food as the PRCs do. It is confirmed by the research report honored with Noble Prize that the tumor cells followed the same law of proliferation and eating same food. It is on this basis that a model of using a serial of tumor cell line has been established to study normal cell live law and now has been popularized in the researches worldwide. However the results obtained in our studies demonstrated that the regenerative substances serviced for PRCs proliferation, but not for tumor cell proliferation; while the results obtained from the studies following the standard culture procedures without adding regenerative substances were complied with the report honored with Noble Prize, i.e. tumor cells grew greatly while normal cells died down due to normal cells were controlled by tumor cells completely and died. That draw us a great attention to conduct further study.  Why the results that we got are totally different with the unitive conclusion worldwide? So, we stepped forward and got some clinical results. However it may be too early to have final conclusion now and may take more time to be a practicable method to treat cancer patient so far. Of course, we will continue to make every effort to emphasize cancer research so as to make our best contribution to cancer treatment.

Reporter: How do you think about the dispute from some scientists 5 years ago?

Rongxiang Xu: It is quite normal to question an achievement in science field, especially a new one.  Any new achievement must go through such an experience and procedure. But there are two points we have to keep in mind when we face such dispute and oppugning. One is that science needs a hundred schools of thought contending; then the scientific conclusion is to be improved and developed continually, that makes progress in science. However, the oppugning presented should be on the basis of scientific experiment, just like ‘Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth.’ in social science. Both sides of oppugning have to present their opinion based on the research results obtained by their own rather than only on their experiences of research, their reputation, positions or/and their own version, because a conclusion in science is only verified to be a truth by the scientific study results rather than by individual halo. The other one is that a scientist, as a researcher facing oppugning, has to hold his/her attitude correctly, that means he/she should welcome such dispute whatever the opinion oppugned is complied with his/her own opinion or not if the oppugning is presented on the basis of experimental results since such oppugning should make progress in science. For example, at the hearing meeting in 2002, many scientists had presented their good comments or suggestions in their well-meaning. A researcher has to learn to accept different opinion or suggestion that is a basic skill to be successful. It is the meaning that ‘How great the success is, how strong the opposition is.’ Of course, if the success you obtained is over the existing the conclusion; that demonstrates the oppugner falls behind your research progress. In my opinion, that is a conventional law of approaching science. Finding a way to approach a scientific law is same as finding a way to Roma---‘Each road can reach to Roma whatever you go by transportation on air, sea or land.’ The final purpose is to reach the target you designed, but you have right to select your way to reach the target. Of course the best one is the one taken least time and cost least money. There is no signification to evaluate feasibility of a way to reach the goal with a way not reach to the goal as a criterion of evaluation.

Reporter: What is the relationship between longevity and tissue organ cloning in situ?

Rongxiang Xu: The topic of longevity is the most interest one in the human history. The doctrine of longevity in the human civilization evolution is classed into five categories. 1) Myth, elixir of longevity; 2) Medical knowledge, stay young and beautiful as long as we can; 3) Religion, God bless 500 years; 4) Our theory of tissue organ cloning in situ, at least 300 years; 5) Theory of gene presented after us, 1000 years. To evaluate if the theory of longevity is realizable, it is necessary to observe real life time of human in the practice of the theory. Of course, no one of above theories is to realize the goal claimed. Both of tissue organ cloning in situ theory and gene theory have been presented only for a few years, it is impossible to have enough time to demonstrate if it is realizable, although both of them have claimed that they have already done the albino rat experiments of longevity. While the other 3 theories have failed to prove them realizable by the history. The theory of tissue organ cloning in situ was presented on the basis of the amount used-up of cell chromosome telomere. In this point of view, a certain amount of cell chromosome telomere is used each year. By the end of human life, 2/3 of chromosome telomere has not been used-up. That means that the life of the cell should be at least 3 times of the existing life of human body. According to this mechanism, the experiments of albino rat have been done to verify the life-relay and 300 human being longevity theory. When the cells and tissue organs in the organs are self-renewed by means of tissue organ cloning in situ under the supplement of regenerative substances, the aging cells are replaced and the organ life relay is realized. In this way, the life time of the organ may be extended to the same as the cell does. When every tissue organ extends and realize life relay, the longevity is realized. The results obtained from these experiments demonstrated that the life time of albino rat has been extended to more than 2 times of that it normally has and the organ of them were still kept in their middle-age young stutas. That has been already a fact. As well known the law of biology, the biological law of albino rat is very likely same as that of human. It is on this fact that a prediction ‘It is possible to extend human life to more than 2 times of life time of human in his/her midlife by means of the human organ's relay in his/her midlife under supplement of regenerative substances.’ was presented. Now we started a serial of studies on human body life relay with nutrition of regenerative substances in a period of 3 years. In other words, the observed indexes of the studies in human collected every 3 years will be contradistinguished with the same indexes observed in human without supplement of regenerative substances collected every year. In this way, it attempt to find and to verify the law of human longevity. It is my dream to realize in my life time period so that we can enjoy the pleasure resulted from contribution of the achievement to the human in the world.
